As of this AM....culprit has turned himself in. 26-year old Syrian guy...had arrived in Dec 2022 and asked for asylum.
Cops had arrested some youth Saturday evening who was a witness.
This claim that ISIS said it was a staged event under their name? I think it’s mostly bogus or taking advantage of the event.
Consequences? Two things:
1. Interior Minister is going full-speed ahead on the weapon-zone concept. Each town would design their own zone area. Has been in effect in Wiesbaden for 5 years (they were the original place to do it). You give the cops status to stop you in the zone...they can demand an ID, then frisk you. Weapon on you? Five-thousand Euro fine. Drugs on you? Just adds to the court appointment you have later.
I won’t say it does anything much to improve safety, but it’s the only step that the politicians are willing to dump on people without going anti-migrant.
2. This other consequence is the state election in Thuringia (eastern state of Germany) next weekend. AfD is slated to win (30-percent projection as of last week). They won’t be able to form a coalition...so the 2nd place winner has to build a unique coalition (CDU...likely having a partnership with the new BSW Party, and SPD. However, with this event...some people are thinking AfD will emphasize safety elements and get another 3 or 4 points extra. This would make the coalition even more weird.
Then behind this election....two more state elections in four weeks (both of them in the eastern side of the country). Both would see gains for the AfD.
As for knife crimes climbing? Statistically....yeah, for 2022 and 2023...the numbers are going up. However, it’s a situation you have only in metro cities (Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, Koln, etc). You go into towns of 10,000 or less...the problem of knife crimes doesn’t exist.
That knife-lady in Munich from last week? German gal (not an asylum case). Cops cornered her in a grocery....ordered her to put the knife down (she was waving it around). She refused and moved toward them.....they shot her dead. Known to the police....nutcase who was a active drug-user. Rare episode of a female.
Final prospective...just a awful lot of security being emphasized. More police billets...more patrols....actively seen in shopping areas...public trending the topic...Germans reaching a point where dynamics might go to extremes. Presently, even carrying around a multi-tool knife on you...in a zone...gets a confiscation and likely 5,000 Euro (pretty hefty). Add to it...just a lot of drug-use compared to 1980s West Germany that retired military might remember. Migrant male crowd fell into drug stuff pretty easily.
cant run out terrorism, good assumption idiots. How about cant rule out the feckless arrogant politicians who allowed this to happen to your country
That would be the sensible thing to do because they're the main problem; look at what's happening in Great Britain right now. Multiple knife attacks by Muslims and British citizens being arrested for calling them out and marching against them.
Coming to Germany soon?
Based off what I’ve seen in the UK...with a serious number of ‘bobbies’ exiting service (some claiming PTSD/stress)...there’s going to be a problem over the next decade where crime escalates (way beyond what the Brit police are manned) and people start to plan an exit (like to Poland or Hungary).
When you have the public lacking respect of the police (like you see in the UK)...the safety factor becomes a national crisis. You see that in the US, the UK. There’s still a respect for police in Germany.
National election coming in fall of 2025 to Germany. Both major parties (CDU and SPD) will have to offer some ‘safety-campaign’ as a platform....to stall gains by AfD. The weapon-zone idea and knife bans....only step forward at this point that they would accept.
But I’ll add this odd point...if you live in Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Essen or Berlin...public safety is moving up along side of economic stability/jobs. Merkel added 10,000 additional police billits. I can’t see them adding another extra 10,000 without admitting there’s some serious problems.
If you sit around working-class Germans...after a newscast, they all hype on public safety. I’ll admit...I look at the Wiesbaden/Main police blotter at least twice a week these days.
