Palm Beach Officials Seek to Close Mar-a-Lago: ‘Our Residents Don’t Feel Safe’

In the wake of last month’s attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life and a slew of threats, local government officials in Palm Beach, Florida, were considering shutting down access to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and resort, allegedly for “safety” reasons, the Palm Beach Daily News reported.

The Palm Beach Council met on Monday, directing city staff to investigate ways to handle the closure of a section of South Ocean Boulevard near Trump’s home that the Secret Service mandated following the July 13 the assassination attempt.

Nobody from the general public is allowed through without passing a number of security checkpoints along the way.

Palm Beach’s Council expressed concerns that its upcoming fall “social season”—and its associated crowds and congested traffic—might cause the town to become even more chaotic.

In order to deal with the issues, the council floated the idea of closing off access to Mar-a-Lago altogether—despite the fact that it remains an active resort with paying member, and that Trump often hosts large parties.

According to Mayor Danielle Moore, such a maneuver would be necessary for the good of the town.

“In my mind, if the road is closed, the Mar-a-Lago Club is closed,” said Moore, who is a registered Republican, according to Florida voter records.

“There’s no way in God’s green earth that they can bring 350 people into that club,” she added. “It’s completely illogical that you’ve got a road closed and then you’re going to let 350 strangers into your club.”

Council member Julie Araskog expressed concerns about the safety of residents, who feel endangered by road closures due to potentially slower emergency-response times.

“Our residents don’t feel safe right now,” Araskog said, noting that she has received calls from residents who have had difficulty getting caretakers and other staff through the checkpoints.”

So if my neighbor makes me feel unsafe, I can get the city to move them out? Cool! 😎

Close down Mar-A-Lago but keep those borders wide open.

As odd as this sounds, there is genuinely felt discontent among the locals with the inconvenience and disruptions caused by security restrictions near Mar-a-Largo, especially when Trump is in residence. A friend of mine, a hard-working, self-made Cuban American lawyer of conservative Republican views, has a house on the Island near Trump. My friend and his wife are aggrieved that they often have to wait to get cleared by security to be able to return to their own home after working all day.

If it’s harder for anyone to get in then logic dictates that it is safer for all.

How is security at Mar-A-Laga any different than Rehoboth Beach, or any President or former President’s home? This is just idiot politics.

Many good people on the Right still don’t understand — or they just don’t want to believe — that we’re in an all-out, hot war with the Democrat/Communist Party-Left and that the survival of our Republic is literally at stake.

"My friend and his wife are aggrieved that they often have to wait to get cleared by security to be able to return to their own home after working all day."

Then they should move if they are unhappy living in the vicinity of a long-time public figure and President. Trump's owned that property for 39 years, and was already a well-known celebrity at that time, which required him hiring his own security. In the early 90's, when he wanted to divide Mar-a-lago into smaller properties, the residents of Palm Beach went berserk, and the City Council rejected his plan, so he turned it into a private golf club. It seems Palm Beach has a hard-on for Donald Trump.

I highly doubt that using the flimsy excuse of "feeling unsafe" without any actual evidence, in an attempt to close access to a residential, and business property that brings in large amounts of tax revenue to the State, would set well with the Florida Attorney General and Governor, not to mention the Florida courts. There were plenty of people killed at Parkland High School and at the Pulse nightclub in Florida between 2016, while Trump was running for President as he is now, and 2018, while he was in the White House. Were they "feeling unsafe" living near Mar-a-lago then?

Palm Beach has been trying to close Mar-a-Lago ever since Trump opened it up to Gays, Blacks and Jews.

I agree on the merits. My friend is having fun being deliberately provocative with me about his inconvenience — but he is muted with his rabidly pro-Trump mother and brother.
