there are organizations in Belgium sending people over to Namur and Brussels WI to relearn the dialect. Interesting that the dialect died out in the old country but was preserved over here. Sort of like those folks in Virginia and other parts of the South who still speak Shakespearean English.

Yes. Sometimes it dies out without knowing it is doing just that I suppose.
Look at the dialects of Gaelic.

Léon Degrelle approves.
Degrelle led the Walloon Nazi collaborators. Before Belgium was conquered, he was anti-Nazi and the Rexist Party had Jewish members, Ghent is Flemish. The Flemish equivalent party, the Vlaamsch Nationaal Verbond, was always pro-Nazi, to say nothing of Van de Wiele's DeVlag (German-Flemish Working Group). Far too few members of these groups were killed after the war. Degrelle hid in Spain
