OAKLAND, Calif. - The man charged in the death of the baker behind Oakland's Angel Cakes has been sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter and robbery.

Ishmael Burch, 20, of San Francisco, was initially charged by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office with murder in this case. He accepted a plea deal and was sentenced on Friday.

KEYWORDS:
Angel's loved ones released a statement saying she believed in restorative justice. They added, "We also believe that the sentencing recommended by the D.A. in this plea deal was the best possible outcome under the current legal system, in this political climate. We know that Jen would not want someone involved in her death, whether complicit or not, to waste away in prison for decades, and we take some comfort in knowing Ishmael has a chance to repair some of the harm he has caused."

We don’t want the SOB out. This gal put a sign up on her bakery door that stated policemen are not welcome

Jen wasn't murdered by Ishmael. It was a post-birth abortion. Celebrate it!

If he even does the full sentence, he’ll be out long before he’s 30.

No one sees the fail in their logic.

The anarchist wanted her stuff back, and chose to fight for it. Anyone else see the irony?

As for being a believer in “restorative justice”: How does one “restore” the victim if that person is murdered? Seven years in prison doesn’t restore anyone but the perp.

The parents speaking for their dead daughter; as if they know what she’d want. I suspect she’d want to be ALIVE.

What a bunch of morons.

So he’s out before he’s 30? Guess he can continue his academic pursuits then.

Somewhere out there walking around, or maybe not even born yet, is Ishmael Burch’s next murder victim and the one whose life will see him remain behind bars for life.

That person, whoever he/she is, is society’s sacrifice - a victim of our institutional delusions.

That’s one serious case of leftist-inspired white guilt when you remain ‘guilty’ enough even after death to let your killer off. Guess she felt she deserved it, even as she was losing consciousness for the last time.

The DA who negotiated this slap on the wrist will face a recall election in November instead of the special petitioners wanted. Given that it’s a presidential year, Oakland will likely vote straight ticket Democrat, keeping Pam Price in office. Oakland residents won’t be able to say they didn’t vote for this.

I see this as local rather than institutional. Oakland got what it voted for. It could have elected a Republican DA. Or even a law and order Democrat. It chose Pam Price.

Will County IL put a carjacker in prison for 20+ years. The DA is a Democrat. Neighboring Cook County (i.e. Chicago) would have had him out in days.

Jen was obviously on the EXTREME LEFT in the Democratic Party. No doubt she voted for the District Attorney too.

Ishmael get’s to do it all over again in 7 years (i.e. remove another extreme lefty from our midst).

No problem! Life in a democratic party hell hole goes on.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if he serves more than three years of his seven year sentence.

seven years. That is all a life is worth these days. And he will probably even get released earlier. And do it again.

There’s only one way to protect society from convicted murderers, you execute them.
