It’s all about appearances.
Democrats are very shallow people, and their primary concern is “What does it look like”.
This guy was never going anywhere anyway, and they didn’t want to waste one of the younger governors as a throw-away candidate. The dems have such a thin bench that they’re going to need the younger ones for later.
