Like an Elizabeth Warren Indian.

Colin Powell’s ancestors were from Jamaica (West Indies?) but he was considered 100% “Black”. How did that work?

Here in the South we did have a kind of Sherman-Williams color wheel to determine if someone was black. They used the “roon” system.

Quadroon, and the associated words octoroon and quintroon are terms that, historically, were applied to define the ancestry of people of mixed-race, generally of African and Caucasian ancestry.

The racial designations refer specifically to the number of full-blooded African ancestors, emphasizing the quantitative least, with quadroon signifying that a person has one-quarter black ancestry, etc.

An Quadroon was someone with only 1 black grandparent. Many people escaped Jim Crow by their color and there were always a bunch of Karen’s accusing each other of being partially black. It got ugly in many small towns.

I’m glad those days are over and people need to move on. They bring it up every time to defend someone different like it is still the law and still tracked on a person’s birth certificate. It hasn’t been for 70 years or more.
