Trump tends towards doing things in his own unique idiosyncratic way. Where Reagan chose to unify the party by picking the #2 in the primary as his VP, Trump has decided he doesn’t need the votes of the other factions, that they will back him in the general, even as he praises those among his paid boosters who continue sniping at the runners-up in the primary. If he loses the election, the defining moment will have be at the point when he chose Vance instead of one of the two runners-up. Those factions are real and their hostility to the primary winner isn’t unique to Trump, which is why even an eventual landslide winner like Reagan felt he had to throw them a bone.
I trust President Trump’s instincts.
But my ultimate trust is in his Anointing “for a time such as this”.
