I think I’ve mentioned it before, but a lot of these high bills seem to be using the occasion of “inflation” just to add to it what they feel like. Of course, the poor guy at the end of the line can’t do this.

In Alabama, a huge part of the power rate increase comes from the fuel costs the utility pays to fuel their power plants.

For example, in the June power bill the per kWh rate was 12.6207¢/kWh (for the first 1,000 kWh). However, the fuel surcharge was 03.6212¢/kWh. Between that and the 4% state tax, we paid 16.89¢/kWh (on top of the flat monthly fees, which total $15.60/month).

So it hurts power customers even in Alabama when Obama's EPA forced us to close some coal plants and replace them with "clean burning" natural gas fueled power, then Biden issued EO's making it harder to drill for natural gas (making the price of natural gas go up, which made power rates go up too). Basically, the Dims under Biden are punishing us for using the natural gas that Obama forced us to switch to. Bull crap like that is why I have a bunch of solar.

Rates are regulated. Utilities can’t just add “what they feel like”.
