French police are investigating a suspicious letter addressed to the interior minister that tested positive for the plague.

Discovered at a mail-sorting centre near Dijon, the letter was addressed to the town hall of Roubaix, in the north of France outside Lille, for the attention of Gérald Darmanin, the minister of the interior.

Police were called when the unstamped envelope, with undisclosed “inscriptions” on its back, roused suspicions among workers. Inside, they discovered a black powder and a letter containing racist insults.

Wonder which plague. Have to ask Fauci if it’s one of his Chinese pals or a freelance plague.

It is going to be very interesting to follow this case. How does anyone outside the hill country of northern Pakistan* and various government laboratories get hold of Yersinia pestis bacteria?

* Or Madagascar, or sub-Saharan Africa - localities that may be of more interest seeing the this is a French case.

I wonder if there are any Muslim Radicals in Pakistan, Madagascar, or sub-Saharan Africa, and would they go to France to cause trouble?

Wait, ... no I don't.

Probable black plague....

Let’s pray the millions of illegals already in the US now are not plotting the same or similar for the US.

We in the US once spent weeks watching for
threats in envelopes in 2001.

History website:
Feverish and delirious, Bob Stevens arrived at a Florida hospital in the early morning hours of October 2, 2001. The emergency room doctors thought the 62-year-old photojournalist might be suffering from meningitis.

But when an infectious disease specialist looked at Stevens’ spinal fluid under a microscope, he realized there was another, terrifying possibility. Lab tests confirmed it, and on October 4 Stevens was diagnosed with inhalation anthrax, a bacterial disease primarily found in livestock that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) had recognized as a potential agent of bioterrorism.
Over the next two months, Stevens and four other people would die after inhaling anthrax, and 17 others would be infected, either by inhaling anthrax or getting it on their skin. The lethal spores arrived via a series of letters mailed to locations in four states (Florida, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) and Washington, D.C., spreading a new wave of panic across a nation already reeling from the terrorist attacks of 9/11 just weeks earlier.
//////////////////////////
Remember to thank our Dem coworkers and relatives for voting Dem to bring in the “undocumented” terrorists.

Come to New Mexico, we have a couple cases a year, mostly in pets, but the occasional human too.

Yersinia pestis is the bacterium that causes the “black plague.” It can cause skin necrosis if not treated with antibiotics right away. The skin necrosis makes the skin look dark. So this is probably some stooge that sent the envelope. Anthrax is worse, but also a bacterium that can be treated with antibiotics.
The worst of the bioterrorism weapons are genetically engineered viruses like covid and bird flu. Antibiotics don’t stop viruses, only secondary viral infections which are bacterial due to a crapped immune system.

Western US has plague, we get a few human cases a year, and a fatality every few years, mostly due to delayed diagnosis and treatment.

It's rare enough most doctors have never seen it, and when they hear hoofbeats, they look for horses — not zebras....

Thanks both! I hadn’t forgotten south-western USA, but as you yourself pointed out it is relatively uncommon. I guess, if you really know what you are looking for you’d be able to isolate some bacteria, but you really need to be an expert or very (un-) lucky.

Yes, exactly, someone would have to be very motivated to do all this.

Not only locating a plague infected mouse, rat, prairie dog or whatever, but isolating the Yersinia pestis bacteria, culturing a viable large quantity, purifying it, treating it in such a way to dry it out to a powder, adding coatings to keep it from clumping to a relatively inert blob in the bottom of the envelope, and do all the handling to send it on its way.

Probably died from licking the envelope.

More likely a state actor with a stable of skilled worker bees. Who knows? the work could have been done here in a covert lab in California’s Central Valley.

Who would ever notice, a code inspector? Naaahhh...

Go from the easiest to harder stuff, so start with French labs that already have plague bacteria, then move to overseas labs that have plague. I’d bet it’s somebody in a French university lab, who is named Mohammed.
