After 25 years, Wisconsin anglers won back the right to carry guns while fishing, but some Wyoming anglers said it would be stupid to ever give that right up in the first place.
Particularly where grizzlies are lumbering about, a .44 magnum could be part of the well-equipped Wyoming angler’s kit.
Even so, don’t entertain any thoughts of leveling your hand-cannon at a trout in a “make my day” moment with a menacing snarl like Clint Eastwood’s “Dirty Harry” character.
It remains patently illegal to shoot fish with a firearm in Wyoming or Wisconsin.
Indeed, people who try to blast fish with guns might very well be why Wisconsin banned anglers from carrying firearms in 1999.
[snip]
Wisconsin’s ban on anglers carrying firearms had long irritated gun rights advocates there.
The conservative activist group Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty finally made a successful push against it, suing on the grounds that it violated the Second Amendment.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on Wednesday agreed to overturn the ban, and the lawsuit was dropped, the Washington Times reported.

You ALWAYS use shotguns to shoot fish, handguns are a waste of effort.
I don't have grizz's in my neck of the woods, but I still need to carry a backup 44 mag (I own 4: 2 Rugers and 2 S&W 29-2s). Heck, I need a backup everywhere I go. I even carry (Sig P226) to worship.
Long live the 2A cause, the way things are going, when generation z takes charge? The Constitution might become nothing but a nostalgia memento.
It is certainly a good reason, but there should not have to be a reason given. I just watched a video where a store owner had a 10-round limit in his magazine due to stupid legislation, as a result of “No one needs...” thinking.
He could have used more rounds in a gunfight with a robber, but wound up having to play dead when he ran out of ammo. He lost the gun, too, because of it. I’m tired of the Left dictating what we can or can’t have.
Now, there’s no doubt he needed more training, but I was so ticked off at liberals while watching that. You know the robber had more rounds, too, because they don’t care about the law.
Do you want private citizens to wield nuclear or biological weapons? Yes, it is true that private citizens once owned ships of the line and some conducted state-sponsored piracy in the days the 2A was written, but given the power of modern weapons, does somebody have to delineate how powerful those weapons can be? Do you think it legitimate that the citizens' representatives could define such limits?
Just asking, and I really do hope for a thoughtful response.
Now that may sound like a "leftist" argument, but I think it's better to rid ourselves ideologically of leftists than to go about either testing or setting such limits. I think it can be done BTW; at least I'm working on sawing at the legs of their stool so to speak.
Why would you shoot a fish? Why would you shoot a fish with a .44 Mag?
Where I used to hunt in west Iowa, there were mountain lion sightings. I always carried my .40 with when hunting with my one shot, muzzle loader.
Why would you shoot a fish? Why would you shoot a fish with a .44 Mag?
I have no idea as to the answers to either question. Maybe someone with fish shooting skills can enlighten us. LOL!
Probably so. But the ban was approved by legislative idiots who were clueless about the ballistics of any bullet fired into water.
I'm sure they got their info from watching James Bond swimming under water while the bad guys are shooting at him from above and the bullets are whizzing past him in the water.
As a post script, Myth Busters have a couple of videos where they are shooting firearms into a pool to show how far a bullet would penetrate the water.
Here is one of them:

Shotguns aren't much use either since water penetration is minimal.
Maybe 60 or so years ago in the fall, I was grouse hunting with a buddy in northern Michigan and came across a stream where salmon were swimming.
Being stupid, we started shooting our shotguns at them and my buddy finally killed one.
Being it was a small town, when I got home, my step dad asked me if I was doing any shooting at the salmon in that particular creek.......
I lied and said nope. But learned a lesson that day, no matter what the heck you did in that small town, somebody knows you and knows what you are doing.
btt
If government, that the people delegated certain have a particular weapon, then the people an have it too.
When governments stop possessing these weapons, then it is reasonable to consider whether the people may be be asked to give them up.
Not before!
Way back in the cave man days, my brother and I went into the woods outside Glendale OR, with some kids about 18-20.. In the back of a pickup, into hills. There were ponds, and creeks full of fish. They shot a few using birdshot. It shocked me, because where I came from, W.WA you used a hook with bait on it to harvest fish. I threw that in for some levity. They were shooting any birds that flew too, or shooting at M 80’s. It was a blast. Today, there would be felony charges of some kind. This was around 1960-63 timeframe.
This article should be “Wyoming Anglers talking stupid”.
Wyoming doesnt deal with the number of Fudds and communists causing problems for proper regulation that Wisconsin does.
And that doesnt really speak to their foolish comments about grizzlies.
Wisconsin doesnt have grizzlies but we do have black bears. Our black bears grow to unusual size and our black bears are known to regularly reach and often exceed the size of a normal non-NW’ern brown bear. Black bears are often more aggressive and more likely to attack humans because they have often lost their fear of humans due to regular interaction.
Carrying a pistol to protect yourself from Wyoming grizzlies but not being concerned about Wisconsin black bears is like walking through a ghetto wearing your body armor on your head to protect yourself from meteors.
I don’t know what Fudds are, but we have Fibs. F***ing Illinois Bas***ds. Probably the same types.
Fudds are the RINOs of the gun world. Generally the conservation world also.
You can identify them by their call. They sound something like this...
“Real sportsman dont need any of those plastic guns with weird chambers to shoot deer. Do you think youre some kind of commando? Real guns have wood grains are chambered in 30-06 or 12 gauge which are the only way they shot deer when I was a kid and it worked fine for them. Pistols are for the army and police but I dont see a blue uniform on you. Do you think youre going to stop an invasion or something? We dont need toys like bows or airguns to hunt deer and we dont need those non-sportsman losers wandering around playing commando and shooting at other things thinking they are on some safari.”

My husband goes bowhunting. He scopes out his area, gets his tree stand up a week or two before. Then on the morning of the hunt, gets up early, 2-3 am, giving him plenty of time to settle in, be quite and wait. (he always carries a pistol when bowhunting)
One morning, about 15 minutes before hunting time, 3 FIBs came stomping through the woods, right next to his tree stand. He was mad.
To make matters worse during gun season a month or so later, he was sighting in his rifle at the range. Those same 3 were there, had no clue what to do, walking in front of the guys, getting their targets before everyone was done, etc.
Yeah, we got FIBs. I can tell you stories about fishing, boating, driving cars, anything outdoors that men like to do.
We lived in Green Bay for a couple years. A very nice area to go to is “Door County”, that’s the peninsula that is in the northwest part of Lake Michigan. Green Bay radio ran commercials that said, “now that the tourist season is over”.... Meaning FIBs
If that scag and her buddy get elected, its all over. They will impeach Thomas and pack the court with left wing lunes like Katenji Brown
