A Northern California wildland fire that exploded overnight into the state's largest blaze this wildfire season, destroying structures and prompting thousands of evacuations, was allegedly started by a man who pushed a burning car into a gully, authorities said Thursday.
The 48-year-old arson suspect linked to starting the Park Fire in Butte County near the city of Chico was arrested Thursday morning and jailed without bail, said Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramse

Crazy enviromentalist anyone.
Was he a preacher, and was his wife in it?
(I watch too much true crime. - sigh)
Terrorist
I assume it took them this long to arrest him because it wasn’t his car that he pushed into the gully.
Save the planet wacko?
The guy was a convicted sex offender and crook. This is his third strike.

Didn’t they do away with the “three strikes and yet out!” Law in California?
How do we know he was a “man” ?
This is what I found.

Execute him!
Publically.
This is not a peaceful protest.
It is premediatated, attempted 1st degree murder (so far).
He might have voted Democrat, so it’s worth it.
I heard on the radio this morning that he got stuck in the gully and then gunned to try and get out, and created sparks, so it wasn’t intentional. Not smart, though.
Seems like it would have been easier to drive around back roads shooting bottle rockets and roman candles into the brush.
Can he (or is he) be charged with domestic terrorism?
Is that what happened or is that what his lawyers are telling the D.A.?
They arrested him in the wee hours of Thursday—the fire started Wednesday 3pm local time. It is currently burning at 165K acres and growing., We see the smoke plumes rom over our tree line and we are some 25 miles away...
Seems like there must be a less expensive way to do this.
Although, historically, some California fires have been due to lightning strikes (Yosemite is perennially on fire due to lightning strikes);
Most of California’s wildfires are “caused” by carelessness or some “freak” getting his jollies from causing other people much grief!
I can't find a definitive source. We will have to wait and see. But we also need to wait and see if it was arson.
