I think this Crooks was still living at home with his parents. Imagine for a minute, being his mother or father, realizing far too late that you don’t really know your adult son ..At All!! I have not seen anything to make me believe the parents were also involved.
They probably never dared to look at his phone or laptop to see who or what he had a dialog with.
I suspect, within a year, they will have moved to another location, if they can afford it.
and let’s not forget he had 3 foreign bank accounts..seriously, a 20 yr old with THREE foreign bank accounts..who was funding him
