Tucker Carlson, Ousted by Fox, Roars Into Milwaukee as a Top Trump Ally
New York Times ^ | July 18, 2024 | Michael M. Grynbaum and Jim Rutenberg

After time away from the spotlight, the right-wing host is increasingly welcomed by Trump’s inner circle. He also made a surprise visit to Fox’s convention studio.

All of a sudden, Tucker Carlson has roared back to the forefront of Republican politics. Once the top-rated anchor on Fox News — only to be abruptly ousted 15 months ago, his national platform yanked out from under his feet — Mr. Carlson has made an improbable re-emergence into America’s living rooms at this week’s Republican National Convention. He was the first person to greet Donald J. Trump after the former president’s dramatic entrance in the convention hall on Monday, and cameras later caught them joking together in Mr. Trump’s friends and family box, just two seats apart.

...

But behind the scenes over the past year, Mr. Carlson has become more deeply allied with Mr. Trump than at any point in his long relationship with the former president, a man for whom the broadcaster once expressed deep ambivalence.

Mr. Carlson lobbied Mr. Trump to select Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, who had been a frequent guest on his Fox show, as his running mate, and he helped broker a meeting in Milwaukee between Mr. Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the independent presidential candidate.

Full-on Chatsworth Osbourne Jr. last night, just smug as shit standing in front of that crowd imagining himself as the candidate. Sad.

If Rush were alive he would have opened the show with two or three very inside-baseball slams on Chatsworth.

I quit watching Faux when they ousted Tucker as well. Have not watched once since then. Paul Ryan is the one they need to throw out of the top floor window.

I was upset that Fox chose to air it’s lineups like Hannity and guests while speeches were happening behind them.

I agree. I was flipping between Fox Business and C-Span. C-Span didn’t even have commercials, much less talking heads.

Yes, i think some have selective memory of what FNC used to be like. Remember Shep Smith? Alan Colmes? Right now there’s only one show i avoid at all costs, the one with Neil Cavuto. But that’s okay since i just switch over to Fox Business and Larry Kudlow.

All in all i think today’s FNC lineup is actually pretty good and maybe as good as it’s ever been. Especially since back in the day we didn’t have much of anything on the weekend, but now we have the weekend morning crew (Will, Pete, Rachel) and Mark Levin on both Saturday and Sunday nights.

I don’t care who will be press secretary. It will be someone competent. I want someone who will set the ground rules.

I want someone who will kick the press asshats in the junk at every turn ... someone who has the nimbleness, knowledge of the facts, and clapback skills. Someone fearless.

That would be Vivek. I don't much care for his timeshare salesman vibe but I think he would be spectacular as press secretary.
