He was a smart kid with a screw loose. Not as smart as Kaczynski, but just as crazy, and borderline suicidal. Smart doesn’t mean good. Hitler was estimated to have an IQ as high as 140. Bin Laden was probably in the same range. A lot of constructive potential wasted, to say nothing of the grief and destruction they inflicted.

Everyone he knows, including his folks, is wondering if there’s anything they could have done differently. As an only child, his death will have hit his parents especially hard. No matter how rotten he turned out, his parents will always remember him as a toddler, taking his first steps, saying his first words, and wonder how it all went to hell.
