I wonder how they write these articles. Does one writer write a line, then the next one writes the next line, and so forth, and so on, and what have you?

Of course not. One writes a word then the next writes one and so forth until the sentence is completed. They take turns alphabetically.

Harlan Ellison once said any article requiring several names as writers means the bosses are afraid of getting in trouble so spread the responsibility around, each writer ready to deny they wrote the bad thing.

He said TV and movie screenplays with several names means the first writer was incompetent, the second was a hack hired as a fixer and the others were brought in to spread the blame.
