How did the gunman know which roof was left unguarded?
My guess is he checked out the venue many times and chose his favorite spot. When he got there, on the day of rally, even he wasn't sure his first choice would be unguarded. It was, and he green lighted himself.
Exactly..he had to know that security in and around the venue would be heavy and tight.
Yet he believed that he could just climb up onto the roof of a building that is one of, if not THE most obvious place one would want to use to accomplish the deed he attempted, all the while carrying a long rifle without anybody bothering to stop him.
Laughable
He was allowed to perch himself on that roof.
