I think Cruz was guilty of not seeing the way the wind was blowing in 2016. At the time he often talked a good talk but had very little assistance in moving the party towards the right so instead just settled for what he could get.
Cruz thought Trump was probably just another Clinton given his public persona (and friends on the left) so acted accordingly. I remember for a few months I thought the same, but then started listening to what Trump was saying. I can’t off the top of my head remember all the history and words said between Trump and Cruz (but remember how ticked I was at Cruz’s actions at the convention), but that’s just a thought.
