As an aside, when Trump stood up and made the SS stop, and raised head and then his fist I was furious, “Get him down, get him down!!!” I thought to myself.
In hindsight, I think that Trump’s self preservation instincts are top shelf. His ear blasted off, he’s surrounded by a team he does not know, and they are trying to conceal him and stuff him in a car.
Trump wanted both the audience and the world to know he was injured, but completely OK, before he was hustled away.
Lord knows from this government, I could envision the followup story had he not:

Followed by a grieving national address by Biden.
