Former US Army sniper on Trump assassination attempt: 'One of the easiest shots' (video and transcript from Fox News Jesse Watters' show)

Transcript from video (formatted by ChatGPT):

Darkness Because They Will Stop at Nothing

Jesse Watters: Let's bring in Florida Congressman and former U.S. Army sniper, Corey Mills. What kind of shot was this from 130 yards, Corey?

Corey Mills: Look, at the end of the day, this is a shot your basic training boot camp soldier is required to make within their nine weeks of training. This is one of the easiest shots; they train all the way up to 300 or 500 yards. The resident counter-sniper is not with the United States Army, but actually with the State Department, and was doing this exact thing: trying to look at going out with an advance team, establishing what the perimeter is.

As a sniper, you would set up, put together range sketches or your range fan cards, and identify the areas of threat you'd be able to mitigate. There's multiple targets; you understand your elevation and wind would not be messed with at 160 yards. You could literally glance quickly and know from reference points, whether it be a building, a lone tree, a parking lot, or maybe a road. The bottom line is massive negligence to the point of me speculating what was intentional and what was not.

Jesse Watters: Wow. You do a site survey, you're seeing this rooftop not that far away, why don't look like the counter-sniper team was a little surprised?

Corey Mills: I can only speculate and want to wait until the investigation comes out. They might have thought the local law enforcement's potential climbing up on the roof. He saw a dark object on the light roof.

Jesse Watters: You are saying maybe they misconstrued crooks for a friendly, for local law enforcement?

Corey Mills: Which is very possible. Don't speculate until the investigation is over. The bottom line is if you saw someone climbing onto a roof that you would not authorize clearance on, it has got a clear line of sight. This part is exactly adjacent to the shooting where the President was sitting. You're trying to make a pop shot; you've got people yelling, and there should've been columns. The minute that local law enforcement, who apparently had a rifle pointed at them, there should've been emergency frequency comms. A shout should've gone out: "There is a shooter on the roof!" Secret Service should've rushed the stage and taken the President off and then responded to the counter-sniper. The shot should not have gone off; that is a failure in itself.

You are supposed to be able to make sure the best security is when you go in, you are able to prevent an incident, not react to an incident. Even if you had left a law enforcement officer patrol car in that parking lot with the lights on, that could've been a deterrent. When you have nothing to enforce protection, you are encouraging disparate actions. Look, I am not sure who the individuals are on the end of the detail, Secret Service, but I can say under this Biden administration, the one thing I have seen is massive DEI hires. I can tell you when you primarily go after DEI, you end up with the IE.

Jesse Watters: You have these counter-snipers awaiting until eight rounds are fired, what accounts for that? After the first shot, you get return fire immediately.

Corey Mills: The minute a shot rang out, they should've been on scope. Your spotter should've already called the distance. If you did not look to your range card, you should immediately engage. There should've been no reason to wait. I talked to Eric Trump after the incident. Eric and I are both gun enthusiasts; we both shoot long distance. That right there is a pop shot. He did say, "I've gone out with the CS teams, and they are one of the best." He knows the actual service detail that is within. They are loyal individuals who actually do care about the President. I can say that was relayed to me.

The bottom line is this is a massive security breach. This is a huge failure, negligence at best. We have to figure out why something within 200 yards... think about this, at 200 yards, that means an average rifle that holds one minute of angle holds a 2-inch grouping if you shot it straight up the deck, meaning on a platform. You're talking 1.6 inches is what its grouping capabilities are. For the average head, which is, what, six by eight, shoulder to shoulder is 20 inches, waist to waist is 40 inches. President Trump is a very large man. This is a shot within five minutes. I could teach you to make nine out of 10 times. This is divine intervention. This is God having his protective hand, and wearing Ephesians 6, the armor of God over the President.

This right here, a millisecond or millimeter change, this is an attempted assassination. This is an assassination of a President. The devil is in Butler, Pennsylvania, but so was God.

Jesse Watters: I can say one more thing, Corey. Let's also remember King Henry II, who said, "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" and his knights went out and killed the Archbishop of Canterbury. They thought that was a direct order. What do you say when President Biden says it's time to put a target on Trump? That, in my opinion, is insightful rhetoric. That is the stuff they would've gone after for the J6 stuff. So why don't we have an investigation? There needs to be a full investigation on this, absolutely. It is not to be crickets like some of these other former incidents.

The resident counter-sniper is not with the United States Army, but actually with the State Department,

In the camera shots which have since come out, the two counter snipes each have POLICE stenciled on the back of their vests.

That would indicate to me they were local LEO's

"..under this Biden administration, the one thing I have seen is massive DEI hires."

Bingo! That, right there, is the money quote.

It doesn’t take a sniper to know a 130 yard shot is simple to make. Any idiot can make that type of shot.

We got lucky that the perp screwed up the shot.

We have all heard of “buck fever” where a hunter misses an easy shot due to nerves. I suspect something similar happened here.

Who is Corey Mills?

130 yards with simple iron sights is NOT a shot any idiot could make.

In the military we rarely shot past 50 yards in yearly qualifications.

SO MANY of his comments are wrong.

The human head subtends about 6 arcminutes at 130 yards, or one tenth of a degree. The resolution of the human eye is about 1 arcminute. Soldiers in basic training shoot (or shot) at “man sized” targets and are trained to shoot center of mass. Ballistic accuracy of a AR-15 “style” rifle at 100 yards, without wind, is about 1 arcminute, comparable to the resolution of the Mark-I eyeball. A basic training target at 100 meters subtends about one degree, or 10 head-widths, center mass. In my day, the iron sights on an M-16 were “zeroed” for ballistic drop at 200 meters, the typical distance of an infantry engagement. I believe we had one 400 meter target (I hit mine, the lag between firing and the target dropping is very perceivable.)

I do not think that a head shot at 130 yards is a gimme. Not a six inch putt, but not a Hail Mary from full court, either. I think Crooks’s results are consistent with what I would expect from a person with his experience and training.

I think you can qualify in Army Basic training without hitting any targets at all beyond 100 meters.

“I do not think that a head shot at 130 yards is a gimme.”

Anyone who shoots at 100 and farther knows 100 is a warm up shot. All your googling for crap to sound knowledgeable is just nerd ignorance on display.

“There were two tries against Abraham Lincoln with the second one succeeding.
There were also two attempts against William Howard Taft in 1909 and again in 1910.
There were also two attempts against Franklin Roosevelt.
There were two against Harry Truman as well as against Richard Nixon and George W. Bush.
Gerald Ford had three attempts on his life. Even Jimmy Carter had two attempts.“

Prayers are in order, unending Prayers for President Trump and our Country. Above all, remember God is in total control.

He didn’t entirely screw up. He made a solid shot to the head but Trump had just moved as the bullet was in flight. It was a kill shot otherwise.

I really don’t think 130 yard shot is that hard if you have practice and have some understanding. Where and when and how often did Trump’s assassin practice? Supposedly he was kicked off a high school rifle team because he was a bad shot. If you are Shooting down your shots go high. How did he figure out the proper targeting? Snipers have pocket guides they have worked out. Every military range I have shot at was level as are most non military ranges. While not a hard shot it wasn’t easy, especially with nerves, etc involved.a lot of seasoned deer hunters missed shots at trophy bucks because of buck fever, or nerves.
