Granted, having a bullet nick one’s ear is a LOT closer that hitting a teleprompter 4 feet away - but BOTH would be “close to killing President Trump” IMHO.

Well, he did come close. Maybe someone will produce a 3d graphic of the shooter, trajectory, teleprompter, etc. to refine the distance.

And, I wonder if a chunk of teleprompter glass or steel might have been fatal?

Yeah the shrapnel from a teleprompter puts a whole new light on what actually happened. Sounds more and more like a 22 LR perhaps with magnum loads.

Trump had turned his head to his right, looking at the extreme left end of the bleachers (and in the direction of the shooter), just before the shot was fired. The shot crossed the stage area from left to right, from the crowd's perspective. The teleprompter was probably not in the right place to deflect the bullet. Trump is a fortunate man - seems like he leaned forward against the podium just as the shot was fired. It was that close. The shooter had the elevation dialed in, it was Trump's motion that saved the day. Hand of God stuff, IMO.
