RE: That is legal is it not? He can donate to a candidate if he wants.

Not directly. The Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA) signed by GWB into law, also known as McCain-Feingold, limits DIRECT contributions to a candidate’s campaign originally to just $2,000 and introduced a provision for the limit to be adjusted for inflation every two years.

The current individual contribution limit of $3,300 per candidate per election is for the 2023-2024 election cycle.

However, Contributions to Political Action Committees (PACs) can exceed individual direct contributions, but the limits vary depending on the type of PAC. Here’s a breakdown:

Traditional PACs:

Individuals can contribute up to $5,000 per year to a traditional PAC.

These PACs can contribute directly to candidate committees, party committees, and other PACs.

Super PACs:

Individuals, corporations, and labor organizations can make unlimited contributions to Super PACs.

However, Super PACs cannot contribute directly to candidate committees or party committees. They can only make independent expenditures.

Super PACs (Political Action Committees) can help candidates in several indirect ways, although they are legally prohibited from coordinating directly with candidates or their campaigns. Here’s how Super PACs typically assist candidates:

Independent expenditures: Super PACs can spend unlimited amounts on communications that expressly advocate for the election or defeat of specific candidates.

Advertising: They can create and run TV, radio, online, and print ads supporting their preferred candidate or attacking their opponents.

Get-out-the-vote efforts: Super PACs can fund voter registration drives and efforts to increase voter turnout among demographics likely to support their preferred candidate.

Opposition research: They can conduct and publicize research on opposing candidates.

Elon Musk’s contributions are MOST LIKELY to SuperPacs ( AKA Working Groups ).

I believe Musk can donate to who he wants to. He is a USA citizen with the same rights as everyone else here.
