Seoul City councillor Kim Ki-duck argued women’s increased participation in the workforce over the years had made it harder for men to get jobs and to find women who wanted to marry them.
He said the country had recently “begun to change into a female-dominant society” and that this might "partly be responsible for an increase in male suicide attempts”.
South Korea has one of the highest suicide rates among the world’s rich countries. The report, published on the city council’s official website, showed that the number of suicide attempts along the river had risen from 430 in 2018 to 1,035 in 2023, and of those trying to take their lives the proportion who were men had climbed from 67% to 77%.
When approached for comment by the BBC, Councillor Kim said he had “not intended to be critical of the female-dominated society”, and was merely giving his personal view about some of its consequences.

South Korea not only has the lowest birthrate in the world, but also an imbalanced sex ratio from sex selective abortions.
They have a dearth of females.
I don’t know what Korea is about, but the pressure to financially succeed because then you can have a woman, is probably poking its head up. If you can’t do that which means you are not a pretty boy on K-pop and cool with daddy owning a factory, probably makes many Koreans achievers are contemplating suicide, I figure. Students are gullible and vain and fighting their inferiority complexes, and all this could lead to national disaster.
The cheap and simplistic headline belies what is far more complex and actually well-researched phenomenon, quite similar throughout the western world.

But the West has this bizarre fascination with LGBTQ+ - which now seems to be happening in Singapore / Malaysia?
Thailand? (I’ve never been to any of those countries - I’m just thinking of stories these past few years)
I’ve been married over 30 years, just not to the same woman....
Women can drive you to drink, swear, throw stuff, stay at work longer, go broke, do stuff you shouldn’t do, not do stuff you should’ve done, join the foreign legion, and drive over a cliff. So I kinda agree with him.

I have been to a number of oriental countries. There are many men in those countries who like other men. It is sick. It was that way in the late 60’s and early to mid 70’s. Frankly, I never saw different classes of oriental women. I have always wondered where the nice, classy women were?

If one was a male time traveler and could pick out a potential woman for a wife and had to select one from either the 1950’s decade or the last 10 years which decade would win? I’m an older guy so most modern western women don’t impress me too much. Add in heaping scoops of entitled obnoxious disrespectful behaviors and voila. Of course it’s not all women but generally speaking.

Someone sounds like they’re OVER THE TARGET.

That’s the price the West now forces countries to pay if they want to be protected by us. None of it is home-grown and Africa told us to F-off and has mostly jettisoned the West.
One guy on YouTube was talking about how the West is dying - and appears to be terminal
Even John Ankerberg - I wish they’d explore this more - believes that Europe will thrive and become the base for the Antichrist. I must admit, I’ve thought along similar lines.
He’s got bits and pieces here and there - not sure if he’s done a whole show on it.
But the West, including Europe is really, really stupid with this whole gay thing.
