President Joe Biden, facing a political crisis as Democrats question the viability of his campaign and mental fitness, will be put to the test on Thursday when he holds his first solo news conference of the year.
The high-stakes moment is an opportunity for Biden to change the narrative after his poor debate performance triggered a drumbeat of concerns in his own party that he might be too weakened to win against Donald Trump this November.
But any stumbles in the unscripted setting could add fuel to the fire, despite Biden's repeated attempts to rebuff his critics and his insistence that he is staying in the race.
Many Democrats have said they need to see Biden clearly answer questions without faltering or losing his train of thought -- what so alarmed them about his debate showing with Trump two weeks ago.
The news conference will come after Biden concludes hosting a NATO summit in Washington.
Biden kicked off that off with a strong speech on the strength of the alliance, which is marking its 75th anniversary, and an announcement of new air defense capabilities for Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

But there are now nine House Democrats and one Democratic senator who have called on Biden to resign. Privately, many have expressed concern about the possibility of not only losing the presidency but also the House and Senate if Biden remains atop of the ticket.

"What so alarmed them" was not his debate showing with Trump two weeks ago. What so alarmed them is that millions of people saw for themselves the extent of Joe Biden's cognitive decline, something they can no longer explain away as "deep fakes" or "disinformation."
This will probably be the angry, shouting version.

Nope- he had his “high stakes moment” during the debate and failed miserably. The left are now trying to gaslight, per usual, the public into believing that he can get better so ehow, magically. He works from 10-4 and must be in bed by 8- you don’t fix that by one “relatively gaff free event” should he somehow pull that off. He still will only be capable of 10-4 “workday” (and I’m assuming not all 6 hours per day are lucid), and will still need to be in bed by 8- so a ythi g that happens after 4 pm will have to be handled by others
Nothing Joe has done since he's occupied the White House has been "unscripted". Trust me when I say that Joe will have practiced for this news conference. He'll know what reporters/persons to call on for questions; he will know what they will be asking; his notes and/or earphone will provide the 'scripted' answer.

Is there a time limit on this presser? Watch him take a question from Peter Doosey or Hillary Vaughn and storm out in anger. My take is he will leave the stage after telling the press Corp that he will try again when they figure out how to act like adults
Won't happen. Joe will call only on previously vetted pro-Biden reporters who will be listed on his notes or as he's directed by his earphone.
This biden creature is a n absolute fraud Trust nothing he or his puppeteer “handlers” say about anything. They are integrity-free scum.

During the debate, he rubbed his right ear so much it was bright red by the end.
He needs an hour to get his meds after the NATO meeting. No way he can jump from one meeting to the next.

Me too. Somebody behind the scenes must of made a calculation. Too early, and there’s a chance Biden won’t be ready in time. Too late, and he’s mentally out of it.
Biden has a history of showing up late for events, which is a sign of arrogance. I wonder when he’ll show up today.
Or his staff forgot to pack butterscotch pudding.
The WH reporters are idiots, their questions are WEAK.
I’d ask, the inflation report came out this morning, can you provide details on the month to month changes year to date and tell us where we will be in 6 months?

The staffers and mass media and politicians are terrified that they might be tempted to tell the truth—about anything.
I see the NATO conference will be over by the time of the presser. Good. Folks don’t have to consider the genuine concern of belittling him on a sort of “international” setting.
If it isn’t live, how do we know it isn’t scripted - OR edited Or - even really Joe Biden?
