Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that Joe Biden is not the first person contacted in the event of a nuclear war emergency.

“He has a team that lets him know of any news that is pertinent and important to the American people. He has someone – that is decided obviously with his national security team on who gets to tell him that news,” Karine Jean-Pierre said.

Imagine the US being on limited time (where seconds count) to respond to a nuclear threat and Joe Biden is passed out with a CPAP machine on his face. If Biden were to be awakened, he would have no clue where he is without his medical cocktail.

Of course he has a team and I believe protocol is that first person who is contacted by “NORAD” when a launch is detected by satellite is either the Secretary of Defense or the Head of the Joint Chiefs. They will then connect immediately to the White House - probably the Chief of Staff to the POTUS.

But it’s a short window of time to react. Something like 6 minutes for a ground to ground launch. Less time if it is a sub launch. The decision whether to counter-strike is up to POTUS but hopefully nobody is dumb enough to initiate a full scale nuclear holocaust on the earth. If there is only one launch, there may be a decision not to escalate.

Reminds me of D-day, when the invasion started, Hitler was sleeping, and, none of his Generals wanted to wake him up, to get his permission, to send up the Panzer reserves. Which, in this case, fortunately, helped the Allies.
