We taught ourselves about fireworks by holding lady-finger firecrackers while setting them off in our hands. You wouldn’t loose a finger but you got smarted right good. And realized anything bigger was going to hurt you.
Our dad taught us about respecting them by using lady fingers, too.
Then we went on to M-80’s without his knowledge. And we had great respect for them.
