This is what happens to a RAT who loses the protection and cover of their mainstream media.

Without that, the person gets the treatment that any republican gets by MSM.

The boot to the arse!

Your post summarizes what is one of the best observations I have seen on this. You are the first one I have seen make it (though surely not the first one, I just haven't seen the others) and clearly shows the dynamic role of Leftist media as the mouthpiece of the Left.

I think there are a lot of people still, even on our side, even some on this website, who fail to understand the power and importance of that and how the Left and the Deep State utiize it.

The best example of this (apart from the obvious ones we see every day) is what took place with General Michael Flynn in late 2016 and early 2017.

On 11/1/2016, the New York Times publishes article: “Investigating Donald Trump, F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia” by Eric Lichtblau and Steven Lee Myers, and Dan Bongino opined this was done to the the heat off of Carter Page and encourage him to begin talking to the Russians.

Then, on 1/10/2017, according to documents that came out after Flynn changed his lawyers that this came out:

""...Flynn has requested the records of Col. James Baker because he was Halper's "handler" in the Office of Net Assessment in the Pentagon, and ONA Director Baker regularly lunched with Washington Post Reporter David Ignatius. Baker is believed to be the person who illegally leaked the transcript of Mr. Flynn's calls to Ignatius. The defense has requested the phone records of James Clapper to confirm his contacts with Washington Post reporter Ignatius- especially on January 10, 2017, when Clapper told Ignatius in words to the effect of "take the kill shot on Flynn..."

On the same day (1/10/2017) BuzzFeed published a 35-page draft dossier that it said was the basis for the briefing, including unverified claims that Russian operatives had collected "embarrassing material" involving Trump which could be used to blackmail him.

NOTE: After these two events that took place on January 10, 2017, it is noteworthy that on that SAME day, Stefan Halper whose name surfaced frequently in this entire fiasco, bragged in a recorded phone call to a PhD Fellow working for him (Stephen Schrage) that: "Flynn’s “so called enemies” would make Flynn “blow up... he’s really f**ked.”
It is important to note that this recorded conversation was two days before anyone outside of Flynn, the Obama Administration, The Russian Ambassador, and the FBI knew about them. One has to ask what did Halper know? (This January 10, 2017 recording was aired in an interview with Maria Bartiromo on 8/10/2020)

The NEXT day, on 1/11/2017, Republicans John McCain and Lindsay Graham and Democrat Ben Cardin, unveiled the “Countering Russian Hostilities Act of 2017.” It would codify in law the Obama administration sanctions as well as apply new sanctions, including in response to Russia’s interference in the U.S. presidential election.
(I include this tidbit, while not media, to show a pattern of Deep State activity, and to highlight the proclivities of McCain and Graham)

Then on 1/12/2017, just two days after Clapper told David Ignatius of the Washington Post to "take the kill shot on Flynn". The Washington Post published this hit piece by Ignatius from which this is an excerpt:

"...Question 3: What discussions has the Trump team had with Russian officials about future relations? Trump said Wednesday that his relationship with President Vladimir Putin is “an asset, not a liability.” Fair enough, but until he’s president, Trump needs to let Obama manage U.S.-Russia policy.

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, Trump’s choice for national security adviser, cultivates close Russian contacts. He has appeared on Russia Today and received a speaking fee from the cable network, which was described in last week’s unclassified intelligence briefing on Russian hacking as “the Kremlin’s principal international propaganda outlet.”

According to a senior U.S. government official, Flynn phoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak several times on Dec. 29, the day the Obama administration announced the expulsion of 35 Russian officials as well as other measures in retaliation for the hacking.

What did Flynn say, and did it undercut the U.S. sanctions? The Logan Act (though never enforced) bars U.S. citizens from correspondence intending to influence a foreign government about “disputes” with the United States.

Was its spirit violated? The Trump campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
.."

All of this activity, in the course of several days (which is why I included the non-media actions of McCain and Graham) seems to me a furious ramping up.

Again, right at the start of this, activity which began to heat up (not coincidentally in my opinion) after the 1/5/2017 meeting at The White House in which Obama, Yates, Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Rice, other members of the National Security Council, and yes, Joe Biden too) discussed what to do about Flynn. Biden even suggested using the Logan Act against him. Then finally, on 1/23/2017 The Washington Post publishes article: “FBI reviewed Flynn’s calls with Russian ambassador but found nothing illicit” by Ellen Nakashima and Greg Miller. Those two names, particularly Ellen Nakashima, should set off alarm bells for people who have followed the Leftist publishing activities of The Washington Post. Flynn, who had been on the hot seat now for nearly two weeks, likely read this article and thought "Whew. Sounds like they aren't coming after me after all."

We know that isn't the truth, because the very next day, on 1/24/2017, FBI agents Strozk and Pienta show up, unannounced at the White House to see Flynn. Flynn no doubt, welcomed them in and talked freely and honestly with them, thinking they weren't after him because of the article the day before, and also probably thought they were all on the same team fighting America's Enemies.

Incidentally, this is the very visit that FBI Director Comey openly bragged and laughed about on a recorded interview in front of a laughing and supportive audience, explaining with a smirk that he thought he could ‘get away’ with sending over two agents to see Flynn by violating traditional protocols for White House visits (they are supposed to be arranged and conducted with the presences of the White House Counsel).

In this context, the FBI’s head of counterintelligence (Bill Pristap) when preparing for the visit by Agents Strozk and Pienta, wrote a handwritten note (that came out in Flynn's 2020 trial asking if "our goal was to ‘get him to lie’ or ‘get him fired'".

So, yes. This not only highlights the media coordination and cooperation with the Deep State, it also illustrates what can happen to you if the media not only decides you aren't someone privileged to receive "cover" from them, but decides that you are an enemy to be eliminated.

As Stefan Halper crudely put it...you're "f*cked".
