say Biden resigns, Harris steps in, how long can they go without a VP? I fully believe the left does NOT win in Nov so all this hand wringing is moot. But, just wondering how long they can go without confirmation? ie, can she/they put off selecting a VP replacement for a period of time?
There is no fixed time; the appointment does not have to be made but requires a simple majority of both houses to do so. The country went from 1945 to 1949 without a VP, when Truman succeeded FDR.
