How much “projectile fire” do you have to take before it’s considered an act of war; or are only Jews required to exercise restraint?

Both sides have been exchanging fire across the border. I just wonder if it escalates quickly and with little notice, or if they will come to some kind of truce after the Gaza operation winds down. Israel will have to mobilize if they plan to push up to the Litani river but will likely soften the ground with massive bombardment. In return Hezbullah will unleash thousands of rockets. It is not a good scenario for either side but just deferring the inevitable isn’t a good option. Something has to break on the diplomatic front; perhaps from the Lebanese people themselves begging Hezbullah to stand down.

When it is not your land, that is difficult to calculate.

The dispute is really about whether certain disputed territory belongs to Lebanon or the Israeli illegally occupied territory of Palestine.

What's happening in the Israel-Lebanon border region?

Tensions in the Israel-Lebanon disputed border area are growing, raising concerns of a broader regional conflict. Here's a closer look.

[excerpt]

Border remains volatile, disputed

The border area between Lebanon and Israel remains volatile and disputed, with sporadic clashes frequently erupting.

There is no official border between the two countries. Instead, there is a demarcation line called the Blue Line, which is marked by blue barrels. Stretching about 120 kilometers (about 75 miles) along Lebanon's southern frontier, it was established by the United Nations in 2000 to confirm the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon has contested the Blue Line, asserting that some of the farms around the border village of Shebaa belonged to its territory and not to the Golan Heights, which Israel has effectively occupied since capturing the territory from Syria in 1967.

Frequent clashes in 2023

Much of the conflict is centered in the area around the divided village of Ghajar, the Shebaa Farms and the Kfar Chouba hills, which are located along the border between Lebanon and the Golan Heights.

Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory illegal: UN rights commission

20 October 2022

Human Rights

Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory is unlawful under international law due to its permanence and the Israeli government’s de facto annexation policies, a UN-appointed Commission of Inquiry said in its first report, published on Thursday.
