John Deere is sparking outrage by laying off American workers and moving more of its agricultural equipment manufacturing to Mexico.
Since October 2023, more than 1,000 John Deere workers have either been laid off or pushed into an early retirement across several plants in Iowa and Illinois.
In many instances, production that these US workers were responsible for has been shifted to new locations in Mexico. The company was founded 187 years ago.
More layoffs are expected later this year - despite John Deere raking in over $10 billion in profit in 2023 while also paying CEO John May $26.7 million in total compensation.
A longtime John Deere worker at the Harvester Works plant in East Moline, Illinois, told The Guardian it comes down to one thing: Greed.
'We get wind of more layoffs daily, it seems, and it's causing uncertainty all over,' said the worker, who stayed anonymous for fear of retaliation.
'The only reason for Deere to do this is greed.'

The important thing to remember is that corporate greed is impossible, it doesn’t exist. The executives earn every single penny of their 26 million dollar compensation packages.
If there is any problem it is fully the blame if the lowest level workers. Just like 2008 was 100% the fault of the poorest poverty level borrowers who took advantage and blindsided those wide-eyed innocent international investment bankers.
Nothing is ever their fault.
The UAW heads working hand in glove with Deep State to annihilate the middle class.
“leave for Mexico”
My Democratic neighbors used to live in El Paso and knew many US managers supervising Mexican operations.
> If the executive gets fired for bad financial performance they get nothing. <
I suppose that happens. But it’s way more likely that he’ll leave with a “golden parachute” severance package worth millions.
Nobody gets punished for poor behavior anymore. And that’s part of the problem.

Nuff said.
In my masters cohort ten years ago, one guy was Latin and working for john deere. Nice guy, but no ingenuity or thought on continuous improvement. He was a clear “yes man”. Said back then that John Deere had plans for him to be a regional leader in South or Central America.
Dear John,
Good bye.
Hope you succeed in your demise.
Sadly, there’s no President Trump to do any jawboning on behalf of the workers. If he were in office, I’m betting things would be different. Tariffs would even the playing field. Did you catch how they are doing the steel switch’eroo. JD gets the steel in Mexico, likely from China without tariffs, makes implements in Mexico and then ‘sneaks’ the implements into the U.S. without any tariffs.
Why are you blaming John Deere? Why don’t you blame the workers who voted to go out on strike for 5 weeks and force the company to sign an onerous contract.
“No other UAW-US major manufacturer has a labor agreement that provides:
Cost-of-living adjustments every 3 months for inflation. What does this mean? If inflation increases, their wages will too.
A company-funded defined benefit pension plan and defined contribution plan (401k) to create more security in retirement. Why does this matter? In retirement, they will receive a monthly pension payment from John Deere and the benefit of tax-deferred savings bolstered by the company.
An entirely new cash balance savings to provide more retirement income and flexibility. What will this give these employees? Tens of thousands of dollars more to spend after their career.”
How would you like to get both a 401k and a defined benefit retirement. How would you like your salary go up with inflation every 3 months? And the workers call John Deere greedy?
John Deere sends jobs to Mexico.
Die, corporate scum.
Right. Blame the workers? What fools thr average GOPer really is. We need tariifs and a border tax. A really high tariff.
The typical (rank & file) blue collar and union worker is planning to vote for Trump this election. They LOVE the idea of mass deportations of illegals.
It’s the company men and corporate types that are all in with the woke, DEI crap. They hate Trump, MAGA, and the uneducated hicks clinging to their guns and religion. Left unsaid is that Trump’s policies will take a big bite out of those multi-million dollar compensation packages.
Of course, a lot of Freepers don’t let today’s reality get in the way of decades old talk-radio brainwashing.
That, I will admit, is true. Corporate greed cannot hold a candle to government greed.
Juan Cierva
Fixed it.
The anti labor slime jusr oozes out of may gloBULList Freepers....
Dude didn't know what was good for him. Glad you beat the system.
I hope Trump lambasts Juan Deere in his next rally speech.
They would not have like Abraham Lincoln, who made a speech on the importance of labor in the formation of capital.
