If you remember the TV show Moonlighting, Cybill Shephard was often filmed with a light piece of gauze over the camera lens. Gave her an almost halo effect but it was also to reduce contrast similar to airbrushing but without the arduous work of doing it frame by frame for an entire show.
And yeah that’s what airbrushing was supposed to do but this here photo is so overdone it’s almost a blur. They could have used a stock photo from the 1990s or early 2000s or something.
