He’s right.
Biden is drowning and Trump is throwing him a lifeline.
Many are convinced Biden will fall over or babble nonsense. If he doesn’t, a lot of people are going to say Biden wins the debate.
Biden will get the questions in advance. His handlers will have Biden pumped up with drugs and Trump will be attacked by the CNN flaks and not allowed to answer.
Just no damn reason for Trump to agree to the debates.

That is exactly right. There is very little upside and huge downside for Trump in this “debate.”
Trump’s ego is getting in the way.

I think we are being played. If Biden stays upright the whole time and doesn’t drool or wander around, he will be declared by the media as deserving a second term. Just think; his abililty to merely carry on a normal conversation, as any 8th grader can, will be, as you say, hailed as a victory.
He will probably do okay phyically and maybe mentally during the debate; they will have been calibrating his shot in the ass for a week to get it just right.
Trump needs to have on tap about twenty lines recounting Biden’s record, starting with inflation, immigration, the world on fire, etc, say them slowly, and say them often. He does not even need to challenge Biden. He should inform the electorate that they need to think about Biden everytime they buy groceries or gasoline, etc.
Anyone who needs a “debate” to tell them who to vote for shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
He should call in and say the time must be move to 2hrs earlier for personal issues. If Biden doesn’t agree, bow out.
Have some Red state and friendly AG send him a subpoena for that date or something.
