Now magnify the difference between that and biden paying off student debt at the debate in simple terms and I’ll be satisfied, despite the fact that it’s pandering.
A government has every right to eliminate (forgive) a tax - because it is the government that levied the tax to begin with - and therefore the government’s to forgive.
Conversely, the government has no right to forgive a private debt. To do so would be to decide arbitrarily that certain private lenders will not be repaid. Private debts are not the government’s to forgive.
