Good. Eff the mormons.

Why the hate? I've been to Utah several times. I've never met a Mormon who wasn't friendly and polite. Overall, they seem to be an honest and industrious people.

There’s a thread recently talking about this very subject.

There is a strong feeling on Free Republic that we are supposed to criticize the Mormon church because of their theology.

I don’t know enough about Mormon theology to know why I’m supposed to dislike their theology. But apparently it is at great odds with Evangelical Christian theology, and many on Free Republic are devout Christians.

So even though this is a secular site for conservative values, many feel free to criticize religions that don’t agree with their own religious faith.

Honest and industrious to your face. Backstabbing and dishonest when nobody’s paying attention. I’ve worked with several of them. Found them duplicitous and sneaky.

The few Mormons I’ve known were wonderful people, but their religion is a cult. However, if I can generalize, they love Jesus; they just don’t know who He is.

I think the main reason a certain subset of Evangelicals hate them (mainly Calvinists) is because they destroy a business model of professional clergy. The Mormons have no professional clergy other than a tiny handful at the top of the church (think about the small number of Cardinals in the Catholic Church here).

As such, they can divert the largest share of their offerings into building and missionary work rather than salaries and pensions. They also own a number of money making businesses on which they pay taxes. As such, they are heavy into free market capitalism rather than redistributionist socialism.

Theological, they are more closely aligned with Arianism of 4th century Christianity, a viewpoint which lost out to tritarism, during the council of Nicaea. As such, many fundamentalist Christians deem them heretical whereas the Catholics mainly see them as just another branch of Protestantism, though more closely aligned on the hierarchal structure of the church.

I was married to a Mormon woman for nearly 39 years until she passed and attended services with her on occasion. Overall, they are an honest and industrious people. Though, much like Jews, there are a handful of wheeler-dealers (especially in areas where their membership is strong) who use their religious connection unrighteously to get ahead in business or politics. Think of people like Mitt Romney here.

Generally, if the subset of their most vocal critics had similar voting habits, douche bags like Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden would never get elected and RINOs like Mitt Romney would only serve a single term.
