When you pay taxes, remember that the bottom 20% of income earners do almost no work, do not pay taxes, and receive government aid. The next lowest 20% pay minimal taxes but also receive government support.

Yes.

I pay the highest state and gasoline taxes in the nation. I see nothing in return - the roads and infrastructure in my California city are falling apart and we are regularly subjected to threats of blackouts - even though we pay double the amount for utilities as any other state. The grid is often overloaded, especially during our hot months.

Where TH is my California tax money going? Certainly not to improve or upgrade state/city/neighborhood roads and facilities.

The government is wasting the $$, disappearing it - our gas tax dollars go into the general fund for Newsom’s pet lefty projects like giving illegals free medi-cal - you think I like paying for that? I have no choice.

So I am going to make the best of my hard-earned dollars that I can - and if it’s not feeding my state’s tax coffers, then so be it. I am sick and tired of funding Newsom’s pointless, lefty causes - such as high speed rail - 16 years later, billions of dollars wasted and not a single inch of track has been built. This is what my state tax dollars pay for.

Love my State. Hate its Government.

Households in the bottom 20% of income often pay little to no federal income taxes due to low taxable income and tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC). According to the Tax Policy Center, about 44% of U.S. households pay no federal income tax, largely because of these credits and deductions.

So probably more accurate to say that the bottom 20% pay no taxes due to the standard deduction (and that most welfare doesn't count as income), they don't even need those credits to reduce tax to zero!
