So where is everyone posting the results and opinions on today’s elections?
In Virginia, it appears Trump-endorsed Hung Cao has won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate and will face off against Tim Kaine in November.
With 44% of the vote counted, it appears Trump-endorsed John McGuire is beating incumbent Bob Good by 52.1% to 47.9 percent. If that holds, that could be a bit of VA political earthquake.
“Conventional politics might suggest a congressman with the conservative credentials of Good would be safe in a primary. But he earned the wrath of Trump when he endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president. He switched back to Trump after DeSantis dropped out, but Trump is endorsing McGuire and portraying Good as a backstabber.
Trump continued to bash Good as he campaigned for McGuire in a telephone rally Monday night.
“Unlike Bob Good, John McGuire will not let you down,” Trump said, adding that McGuire is “strong on the border” and “will always defend your under-siege Second Amendment.””
In Georgia, Trump endorsed Brian Jack won Tuesday’s 3rd district GOP runoff in the heavily Republican district now represented by the retiring U.S. Rep. Drew Ferguson.
Ferguson announced last December he was retiring, leaving the west-central Georgia district the only open congressional seat in 2024. The district - which includes most of metro Atlanta’s southern suburbs and stretches southwestward to portions of Columbus — is heavily Republican, meaning Jack is a strong favorite to become the Peach State’s next congressman.
Jack is a former Donald Trump adviser, and the nation’s 45th president has already made a very public endorsement of his candidacy. Jack finished first in Georgia’s May 21 primary, and at one point was well above the 50%-plus-one margin to win the election outright.
But Dugan, an outgoing state senator from Carrollton and a former Senate majority leader, gained enough votes to make the runoff.
Jack will face Democrat Maura Keller on Nov. 5, 2024.
It’s rather interesting that 10 minutes ago, the Good v McGuire race in VA’s District 5 was reporting that 95% of the vote was counted. Then 5 minutes ago it was at 83%. It’s now dropped to 79%. How does the vote percentage go down by THAT much? Isn’t it pretty much known a few minutes after the polls close how many votes have been cast and thus know the percentage of the number of votes counted/not counted thus far?
