Climate change deniers have found a new champion in Kenyan farmer Jusper Machogu. On social media, he has become known as a flagbearer for fossil fuels in Africa, but there is more to his campaign than meets the eye.
Since he began posting debunked theories about climate change, he has received thousands of dollars in donations – some of which came from individuals in Western countries linked to fossil-fuel interests. Mr Machogu insists this has not influenced his views, saying they are genuinely held.
Scientists have proven that the Earth is heating up because of greenhouse gases that are emitted into the atmosphere when we burn fossil fuels - like oil, gas, or coal.
But Mr Machogu disagrees.
“Climate change is mostly natural. A warmer climate is good for life,” Mr Machogu wrongly claimed in a tweet posted in February.
Despite all this, Mr Machogu continues to insist “there is no climate crisis”.
On social media, he has repeatedly posted unfounded claims that man-made climate change is not only a “scam” or a “hoax”, but also a ploy by Western nations to “keep Africa poor”.
“[His views] are definitely coming up from a place of lack of understanding,” says Joyce Kimutai, a climate scientist from Kenya who has contributed to IPCC reports.
Mr Machogu began tweeting false and misleading claims about climate change in late 2021, after carrying out his “own research” into the topic.
Since then, he has launched his own campaign - which he dubbed “Fossil Fuels for Africa” - arguing that the continent should be tapping into its vast reserves of oil, gas, and coal.
“We need fossil fuels to develop our Africa,” Mr Machogu tweeted last year.

Climate science is based totally on computer models, not on classic experimental research design using control groups and laboratory testing. These computer models are a second rate methodology. They are prone to many problems with regard to validity and reliability, research design, data quality, and interpretation of results. Given the complexity of the earth’s climate, these models are not currently capable of generating precise and reliable predictions of future climate change trends. There are too many untested assumptions that are built into these models.
Thank you! Science has not proven any of that statement, for the simple fact that CO2 is not a major component of the “greenhouse” effect— but rather water vapor- largely from the oceans of the world reacting to solar cycles.

As if 100% of the “donations” that western governments have made to climate “scientists” are not linked to BIG GOV, BIG EDUCATION, and BIG BUSINESS.
But, for some reason, those individuals and companies “linked to fossil-fuel interests” are inherently evil while those linked to perpetuating the scam and deconstructing Western Civilization are good.

What a load of Bollocks as the Brits would say. The only thing that “heats “ our atmosphere is the sun.
Bears repeating. Modelers adapt the model to the data. This, essentially, means the model tells the modeler what the modeler expects the model to say.
Because we do not have sufficiently accurate data of the past, and the future is yet to be, models cannot be validated out even ten years, let alone a century. Models which are used for weather forecasting can be repeatedly validated by comparing the output against reality, each day or week. Such is impossible when "forecasting" a decade out.
He is fantastic! He gives first hand life experience to what I knew intellectually.
