I see what you did there.
I've noticed the same, over 20+ years.

Lol, so the location of the random violence should be pretty easy to narrow down.

I can hardly watch Steve Lookner’s “Agenda-Free TV”
I was watching a weather event one night, years ago, when Steve made some lousy comment about President Trump.
A few people in the live stream comments called him out about it.
That was pretty much the end for me - and I had just started watching him from time-to-time.

Sorry for the confusion, I was just attempting to clarify that I'm not in a stagnant area with few young families and lower tax base.
I'm in such a highly developed Metropolitan area that it doesn't even get dark at night. You see my tagline, "In the Shadow of The Big Chicken!", well Interstate 75 is in between my home and The Big Chicken. I'm three and a half miles from Dobbins Air Reserve Base. I walk up my driveway at night and see a glow to the southwest as bright as the dawn.
The only thing around here that I'm aware of other than White Water Park is the Olympic Park downtown which is just fountains that people can walk through. As I said initially, I have never heard of a splash pad.
So I googled it and I guess it's a new age term that my Boomer hears have not been exposed to because there are water parks in the Metro area that have "splash pads", so I guess I can still learn something after all.
Wait a minute, the one here is named "City of Marietta Elizabeth Porter Park & Sprayground", so I'm vindicated slightly. As you first questioned, "(i)s it that they’re named differently in different places or simply don’t exist?" The one in my city is named differently, so the former rather than the latter.

I think I have heard “spray park”, a variation of that.

Ok, I will quit posting about splash-whatever in deference to the victims.

Really, I think the thread wars were MUCH nastier and uglier in the 00s. The stuff I see now including my “Barrow” comment is tame in comparison, wouldn’t even have registered then.

When I read "splashpad," I thought of pictures I've seen in urban neighborhoods where they crack open fire hydrants so the street waifs can frolic in the spray.
Where I grew up we had "swimming pools."

Does this account for the recent indifference to the quarterly fundraisers to the point our site benefactors have to beg for us to dig deeper to raise what’s needed? Likely.
I know some who have recently left because of that very issue, the level of civility.

That’s irrelevant.
It was a reasonable question and a lot of people had never heard the term before either.
Just because you know something does not mean everyone does, nor does it justify snarkiness or mockery in answering.

If someone claims or implies that “things are getting worse” and I have evidence that things aren’t worse but actually better, it’s plenty relevant.
