Thanks. I didn't see the guy mentioned that I read had gotten the last switch made to what we have today. I think the switch happened in 2000 or 2004. I think it was at NBC and the others went along. Maybe his name will come to me and I can look up something about it.

I’m unclear on the origin, but in the recent past they used to indicate incumbent v. challenger, but then got fixed to party by the LSM.

I remember now, it was Tim Russert. But the story is weird and seems to change.
Wiki: “According to The Washington Post, the phrases red states and blue states were coined by Tim Russert, although in that same article Russert states that he wasn’t the first to use the terminology.[14][15] This term refers to those states of the United States of America whose residents predominantly vote for the Republican Party (red) or Democratic Party (blue) presidential candidates, respectively. John Chancellor, Russert’s NBC colleague, is credited with using red and blue to represent the states on a US map for the 1976 presidential election, but at that time Republican states were blue, and Democratic states were red. (How the colors got reversed is not entirely clear.) During the 1984 presidential election, between Ronald Reagan and Walter Mondale, ABC News used a map which showed Republican states as red and Democratic states as blue. According to David Brinkley, that was because Red = R = Reagan.[16] Mainstream political discussion following the 2000 presidential election used red state/blue state more frequently.”

The story I read somewhere was that Russert got the change done to what we see today. He didn’t like Dems being red.

So?

Get him on a gun charge.

The shooting sounds justified.

“I think the switch happened in 2000 or 2004. “

2000 with the large Bush-Gore exposure
