INDIANAPOLIS — Before an audience of 400-plus Southern Baptists, former Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday raised warnings about the shifting direction of the Republican Party but stopped short of denouncing a far-right religious movement rising amid former President Donald Trump’s candidacy for president in November.
"There’s also a very healthy debate within my party about whether we’re going to stay on the course…traditional moral values, a right to life, an affirmation of religious liberty or whether we’re going to start to move in a different direction," Pence said during a luncheon organized by the Southern Baptist Convention's public policy arm, the Nashville-based Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission.
Pence warned against a "different direction" and spoke to the importance of the GOP emphasizing certain traditional policy positions such as fiscal conservatism and defense spending. Many in the room nodded and murmured in agreement with Pence's analysis.

I was growing to think rather highly of Pence when he was Veep. Long story short, he needlessly backstabbed and badmouthed Pres Trump in the last few weeks and I was, to put it in a word, shocked.
Trump has been backstabbed, broadsided, or just plain let down by many of his appointees.
From afar, it appears that at least some of them were simply purchased, bought off by the DemoCommieNazi sabotage of President Trump and his effort to drain the WashDC swamp.
I’m wondering whether there’s any way Pres Trump will be able to select more honest people for his second administration?
Most Americans believed their grammar-school civics lessons, that a President, elected in clean elections, represents the people, and has broad powers and control over all the organs of Federal Government, to implement the will of the people, and carry-out the laws of Congress as he deems best.
What really occurs is that the President is a controlled by the vast unelected bureaucracy, either through outright blackmail and corruption, through manipulation by false information, or treachery by corrupted appointees and life-long members of the bureaucracy with their own agenda.
At least we can say Trump certainly succeeded in showing Americans how government really works.
