PRISTINA -- On March 24, 1999, NATO launched Operation Allied Force, an aerial bombing campaign to expel Serbian troops from Kosovo. After 78 days, the air strikes ended on June 10 with the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, leading to the withdrawal of Yugoslav forces and the establishment of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo.

The campaign -- aimed at stopping ethnic cleansing that resulted in more than 13,000 civilians killed during the Kosovo War, which took place from 1998-99 -- facilitated the return of more than 800,000 refugees to their homes.

Twenty-five years later, Kosovars are still honoring the politicians, UN officials, and others who helped them break free of Yugoslavia by naming town squares, streets, businesses, and even their children after those they consider to be their liberators.

The Kosovo War was a mess but we should have stayed out of that one.

It should be up to France, the UK and Germany to intervene in Kosovo.

If they did not want to get involved then maybe we shouldn't have done anything.

To me, it's not about picking sides. It's not our beef. We did not learn from WWI. With the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

Politicians here trying to get re-elected by doing a ‘good deed’ somewhere else. Understandable, but what isn’t told is that everything has ‘blow back’. Here, we interfered in a ‘local problem’ with extreme force and without really getting any support from the former ally of the Yugoslavian republic. While freedom is a great thing, interfering with everyone else business eventually comes with a cost.

Kosovo is Serbia!

The clintons, Halfbright, and blair are poor excuses for human beings, as are the muslim Shiptar invaders of Serbian Kosovo!!

Later this month, the Serbian people will celebrate the Battle of Kosovo! If it were not for the brave Serbs who fought that battle, the Turks might well have conquered all of Europe! And we all might bow down to Muhammad 5 times a day!

I think history will agree on your first point. It was a ridiculous boondoggle at best, and a dangerous foreign policy mistake at worst (that we’re still paying for).

We didn’t pick the wrong side: There were NO good sides, just degrees of criminality and evil, backed by some of the best propaganda machines in history. (America) fell for the CNN/Bono/Saudi Arabia information ops campaign. Again.

We should never have been there to begin with, but reminisce with me for a moment about the “humanitarian” 90’s: Desert Storm, Somalia, Haiti, the Balkans...we were played each time.

Somebody(s) got real rich though...

Cheers
