I ask because I know that there is a purist segment of libertarian conservatism which advocates for large scale mass immigration & that the free market should decide immigration & employment. I have just never supported that philosophy. I support about 95% percent of free market ideas, but will never support immigration & importation of workers being tied to the market. To take a national issue with implications for cultural identity, language, Constitutionalism, wealth, philosophy, religion & ultimately political leanings & reduce it to a business decision is a huge part of the reason that California, NY, NJ, I’ll, etc. are completely leftist.

The ironic thing for the folks that support that kind of philosophy: they allowed the immigration as a market decision, they got citizenship & they ended up voting 70+% for anti free-market, pro-socialist political parties. It has happened in every western country that followed that path. I suppose that there are always exceptions that can be pointed to, but they are few & far between. A country & culture can’t be guided by an economy alone. Other factors need to be weighed.

Why couldn’t the answer just as easily be to reform or end government benefits that produce laziness, institute the equivalents of welfare-to-work, encourage job training & the trades & start expecting those taking advantage to get off their butts? 😉
