BTW, the Edmund Fitzgerald was so long, if it could be stood upright on its end intact, where it lies in Lake Superior, nearly half would be sticking up out of the water.
_____________________________________________________________
In the day of the Fitzgerald, sort of like Ice Road Truckers, there was competition between freighters. On that day, my Uncle, Cptn Robert O’Brien was the pilot for a different ship. As the storm came up, Uncle Bob suggested that the Fitzgerald take a safer route into port. They
wanted to get into port sooner, with a bigger load, so they cut across the lake, rather than go along a safer and slower route along the shore. The storm came up and history was made.

My Uncle Jim, retired Naval Cpt. investigatged more on this issue. The owners of the Edmond Fitgerald wanted to be known as a world class shipper, with the biggest and best ships. So what they did was cut the EF in half, and added lenght to the ship. This ways it could haul more. I am not mechanical, but the problem arrised when they extended the EF. Rather than welding the additional material, they used rivets. Once the ship hit the storm, the rivets gave out and the ship broke apart. Uncle Jim died Jan 4, 2024. I never had him explain the story deeper.

So, What did today’s ship hit?

They’re sneaky, those Russians.

Shortest path across Arctic, and Fidel’s kid help.

Ship made it to safe harbor and is now docked for repairs.

“ Is the ‘Witch of November’ on vacation from Lansing and swimming near Isle Royale?”

Why bring Hillary into the conversation?

It isn't fall so likely they will be fine BUT.... every year around a hundred people die on the Great Lakes.

They are not the little ponds most people think of when they think lake but more like fresh water seas with all that implies.

No sharks, yet but I figure it is only a matter of time.

You are correct. One year ago today, we had the opportunity to travel up there to see all the lakes. It was fantastic! Loved the little towns, too. Other than the state of Maine, this was the only part of the country I’d never seen and there’s nothing else like it!
