Because if the juror knew that Trump was going to be convicted, would that not mean that the entire jury had been discussing the case among themselves?
Not a lawyer and have never served on a jury, but isn’t that what jurors do when they deliberate?

I have been on three juries but only once was involved in deliberations (first time the defendant took a plea bargain before it went to the jury, and the second time I was an alternate and told I could leave). Apparently this was at the point when they were supposed to be discussing the case--but not telling anyone not on the jury what they were saying.
Judge Merchan could use this to force Trump to spend another 5 or 6 weeks in a Manhattan court room, but he is probably content with the 34 felony convictions and trying to decide now whether to send Trump to prison on July 11 or allow him to stay free on bond while the appeals are heard.
