If John McGuire wins the primary what are his chances of winning the general? I would assume VA-05 is solidly red, but Trump does have the tendency to influence the primary and then his candidate lose in the general. Is this just Trump doing butt hurt meddling or is McGuire a truly viable candidate and solid conservative?

“Is this just Trump doing butt hurt meddling or is McGuire a truly viable candidate and solid conservative?”

Donald J(esus Christ) Trump is simply being petty and vindictive here. Bob Good doesn’t get into Heaven now, because he “came to (Jesus) too late”.

Good has a lifetime conservative rating of a perfect 100%. His Virginia district is rated as R+7 which means it leans to the right but is not perfectly safe. The one thing which could help make it much less than “perfectly safe” is a divisive primary.

By way of contrast, the GOPe pleaded with Trump not to “interfere” in the recent Texas runoff election in House district 23, where liberal Trump-hating Republican was in a tough primary fight that he won by only a handful of votes. Lord Trump’s endorsement of Gonzales’ challenger — which never happened because Trump caved to the GOPe — would easily have made the difference in the outcome.

That district is rated about the same as Good’s, but notice how the GOPe (and Trump) suddenly don’t care about the possible loss of the Virginia district in November though they cared greatly about the one in Texas. Gotta keep a liberal around no matter what; but to hell with a conservative.

Trump also never endorsed Gonzales’ opponent in 2022 even after Gonzales voted to create the lynch mob known as the “J6 Committee”. Same thing applies to liberal Rep. Carlos Gimenez in Florida — Trump not only didn’t endorse his challenger either, he actually endorsed *Gimenez* for re-election in 2022.

So liberals get a free pass but Trump spitefully opposes a 100% conservative. Another brilliant personnel decision from the master of 400-D chess. Hopefully Good prevails anyway.
