I guess we need to “enjoy” this anniversary. Likely all of the vets will be gone in 5 years and certainly in 10. I look for France to stop acknowledging these events before then anyway.

Over time, these events fade away. I took my kids to DC years ago to see the monuments. The Vietnam Wall and the WW 2 Memorial. Wandering around I found the WW 1 memorial. That was important to me because my grandfather fought in France in 1918. It was covered up with mold and vines. It was broken in several places. It looked like it had not had any maintenance in a long time.

How time flies. I recall when the last of the Great War veterans died. I read that the last Brit vet of WWI was a patient at St Barnabas (Bedlam) Hospital.

I doubt France will forget. The people I met in Normandy a few years back were very reverent of America’s heroes.
