Police used to respond to pick up drunks. They'd take them to the hospital where a doctor would order that person to be transported to the local alcohol ward at the psych center. The psych center had their own security unit that would go to the hospital, restrain the drunk, and transport them back to the psych center. Once they dropped him off at the ward, he was their problem. I did that job for about six months, then took a pay raise working in corrections. I figured if I was going to be knocked about, I might as well do it as a grade 12, rather than a grade 9.
