As my colleague Bonchie covered, college basketball phenom Caitlin Clark is receiving a rough welcome to the WNBA. She’s been receiving hard—dangerous—fouls at an alarming rate.
Why? You be the judge. But it certainly seems like jealousy and resentment are the driving forces behind much of the hate she’s received.
She’s deserving of her accolades; this is not someone who’s getting attention just for her looks or for her social media profile—she’s the real deal:
Top-seeded Iowa, which reached the NCAA title game for the second consecutive season, ended the season at 34-5. Clark finished with 30 points Sunday - scoring 18 in the first quarter, the most in a period in a national championship game. She ends her career with 3,951 points. She averaged 31.6 PPG this season and 28.4 over 139 career games.Clark's season has included milestones and broken records.
In a 17-day span from Feb. 15 to March 3, Clark broke Kelsey Plum's record to become the all-time women's NCAA Division I scoring leader, passed AIAW legend Lynette Woodard for the major college scoring record, and passed LSU legend Pete Maravich for most career points in Division I history for men and women.
But is this basketball or something far uglier?
Former Los Angeles Laker Matt Barnes—no stranger to controversy himself—is calling out the discrimination in no uncertain terms. Where the heck are her teammates, Barnes wants to know (warning: graphic language):
Why isn’t her club protecting her? Barnes:
I mean, throughout the season she's been getting beat up. Hard screens, elbows knocked down. It is what it is. She's not the first. She won't be the last. My issue and my question is where the **** are her teammates at?Where y'all at—where the rest of the Indiana fever at?
The whole Caitlin Clark controversy has been an ugly thing to watch unfold. She is a generational basketball player, one of the best to ever play the game, yet her success has brought out the racists and the dividers as they try to tear her down. What should be a great moment for the WNBA has proven to divide people:
Barnes is appalled:
I’ve seen a couple of girls smirk when she’s got knocked down, half-ass to pick her up. Like, y’all supposed to protect the asset, protect the star. And although this is a team, you always protect your star. I was someone who protected the stars. You f–k with Kobe, [Chris Paul], Blake [Griffin], the list goes on, it’s going to be a problem...
Barnes sums up his rant succinctly:
Got to do better, ladies.
He’s absolutely right. The WNBA, never a popular league, may just be watching its hope of relevancy circling the drain. Clark deserves to be challenged, just like any new player, but what we're seeing is way beyond the pale.
I used to referee women’s sports, they are ruthless and physical.
If she got only 3 points, maybe her team was keeping the ball from her?
I equate it to something like women’s tennis, the men’s tennis game is played on another planet, it’s so good and powerful that the average person can’t comprehend, the women’s game is much closer to how the average weekend player has fun.
Same for women fighters, if you watch the men in UFC that is a brutal combat sport of men who look like they nearly kill each other, whereas women are much smaller and fight similar to how a man would fight.
Your average high school girl fight consists of hair pulling and bitch slapping, women in the UFC can deal a blow and knock each other out.
The punching and submission parts of either sex in the UFC is not that exciting to me, I like the speed and agility of good kick to the head that immediately knocks the person out.
CC is too good for the WNBA. She's from Iowa. She comes from a good family. None of her teammates and opponents have that in common with her.
What you described now happens in politics. Good people who want to get involved are intimidated. That’s why you have no good options when voting.
The Worm’s on court skill set is shown by the media mobs’ other favorite rookie. Angel Reese already leads the league, not just rookies, in rebounds.
Dennis would dye his hair into a rainbow, wear a dress, grab every rebound, and kick the ball back out to her for another 3 point attempt
He was normal when he played for the Pistons. Greatest rebounder ever.
A reverse Jackie Robinson story... Fighting bigotry and hate
The WNBA will kill the goose that laid the Golden egg. CC has given the WNBA a new opportunity and unless they have a sit down with all league owners and coaches and tell them the fines will rise exponentially if they don't keep their players in line, CC will not last and will move on and the WNBA will die, again.
Then they can have their victory parades in front of....nobody....

Thank you. The other players envy her because she got an endorsement contract that they wish they had. She also has skills that they don't have. Government schools don't teach grammar or vocabulary any longer.
It's ghetto, it's prison, it's the violent side of dykery. Frankly.
How she deals with it is up to her, strictly a matter of personal choice. Just like taking a job in the business world and finding out you're in a den of snakes.
Fight them on their terms, or change the game?
BTW I'd bet that Caitlin dresses up just really nice...
Have you ever watched the YouTube channel called Street Beefs.
It was started in Virginia by a former Street Thug who has turned his life around by getting kids to fight in a ring to settle their differences instead of shooting at each other.
He would stage fights in the backyards of houses, anyone who wanted to fight could show up and fight, they tried to pair you against someone of similar weight.
You could fight in a traditional boxing match, MMA or other fighting style so long as another person wanted to fight that same style.
The fights are often times extremely entertaining, some of the people have obvious training, others have the idea they can fight only to get knocked out quickly.
Fine with males doing it. It’s not natural for females to fight.
Call me a “troglodyte”, but there it is.
Ladies?
The WNBA is probably too woke so they won't be proactive to do what needs to be done.
That was not typical. She had been scoring a lot more points this season.
Most of them are too stupid to realize that CC is making all boats rise, they just want to sink the boat they are all in.
The “Crab Bucket Mentality” in action.
