I think it’s like this: The DNC Media Operations Branch is very sensitive to gun control being brought up this close to a presidential election, especially with our side having clips of Biden demanding that Americans be disarmed, as the story did not meet the VERY TIGHT constraint for bringing up the topic.
The constraint is basically that the mass shooter must be white and he must scare enough other whites to then be ok with supporting the disarming of society. In this shooting, since it was not whites, but instead Canadians (a little restaurant lingo), any gun control debate could have easily devolved to a crime-and-punishment debate, and therefore it was best not to report the story.
