I hate to disagree with that tactic but Hamas would love that. Probably only get a couple of inept guards and several civilians. Plus hostages if any are left alive.

Gas the tunnels Nope. Use Peaceful nuclear explosion by drilling down 100m and detonating a 100kt nuclear weapon. It will destroy ALL tunnels within a considerable distance and create a nice crater you can build a canal around Gaza with.
