It’s from the German, dawdi haus.
Dawdi Haus – a small house or rooms separate from the main house where a grandparent or grandparents live out their retirement. dawg – day. dat – dad (alternate spellings: daed, daadi)
Yes! I had an old Maytag wringer washer - looked just like that. Square more than round lol. I used it for years. I got an automatic washing machine when the kids went to high school.
I never used disposable diapers - with that old washing machine I could set it on wash and let those diapers swish around for an hour if I wanted (or forgot lol). Then out to the sunshine on the clothes line. They were the whitest diapers around. They were also the only ones around.
Yes I too used Cloth diapers! Jeff was born in Panama and I don’t recall there even being disposable. When we moved stateside we came with four dozen cloth diapers. Only had automatic washers
My mom had a wringer type washer when were were younger. Don’t recall brand
That actually sounds great, I love those old washers. And line dried clothing.
I think you guys have the best setup, and it’s especially good for the grandchildren. Their memories of being able to run over to see you anytime will be wonderful.
